Graeme has developed a power point programme which is based on the Numeracy Project Booklets. So far he has developed the resources for Addition and Subtraction, Number Knowledge, Multiplication and Division, and Place Value from Stages 1 to 6.
Graeme uses the programme when teaching different ability based maths groups. It is used in conjunction with numeracy materials.
Because it is in digital format, it can be adapted it for use on interactive whiteboards where the children are able to manipulate the graphics instead of the movement being built into the programme. The answers can be hidden and then displayed so the children can check their solutions.
Using a digital format is in line with the Government’s ICT policy in education to support increased innovation so that we can transform the ways students learn in our emerging knowledge society. It is an effective way to integrate ICT into their teaching practice and support learning in numeracy. The use of this technology has a positive effect on student engagement and student learning outcomes. Graeme feels it will support consistency in numeracy and improve teacher performance.
Through school networks and links to the Internet, teachers can use a wealth of digital resources to develop learning programmes that support the learner but few, like this one, are specific to the Numeracy Project as taught in New Zealand.
